Our guest speaker was Bob Hewitt, introduced by Rob Destrube. He is an award winning professional digital photographer and juror for the World Photographic Cup recently. Bob is a member of the Professional Photographers of Canada since 1976. He sold his studio in downtown Calgary in 2007 and came to Victoria. His talk was on the World Photographic Cup formed in 2013. There are 22 countries. He presented 60 photographs with 1O photographs each from six categories: commercial, illustration, portrait, reportage (journalism), wedding, landscape and nature. The digital photographer artist heavily manipulates the pictures to obtain creative and artistic effect, except the journalism photographs must be absolutely untouched. The photographs were beautiful and sometimes moving. He answered many questions. He commented that cameras are just tools and what counts is the artistry and creativity of the photographer. He mentioned that mobile telephone cameras have tremendous possibilities.
Don Boult thanked the speaker.
