I apologize about the email that was incorrect. Software glitch that I should have caught. Please register ASAP.

This is our first Dinner for everyone since Christmas and we must ask you to RSVP because Uplands needs to know how many will be there for dinner. Please don't forget to add the number of guests that will be with you.

You need to have your vaccine passport to enter the club and must wear a mask unless seated. We can mingle but must wear a mask to do so. We will be in the main dining room for the evening and may be able to pick up our own drinks if the bar is not too busy. Cost for dinner is $36.22 all in each. Golden Girls will be free, courtesy of the Jan Horwitz bequest. Dress is smart casual.

Our speaker will be Barry Casson.

In his earlier life Barry was known as an accomplished rock n roll drummer on the Victoria music scene. With his seven-piece band “The Strangers” he headed to London to take part in the British music scene. At one point, along with keyboard player, David Foster and Bassist, Mike Stymast, they toured England and France as the band behind Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley and The Drifters. Barry has been inducted twice into Victoria’s Rock n Roll Hall of Fame and continues to teach drums locally.

After 12 months in Europe, he returned to Victoria and studied photography, & for seven years became a press photographer for the Colonist and Victorian Newspapers, garnering an estimated 4,000 published photos.

Building on this skill, Barry moved to Hollywood to study filmmaking & on returning became a CHEK TV news cameraman for 9 years. During this time, he started the first night-school film training course at Camosun College and after leaving CHEK TV created Victoria’s first independent film school, The Victoria Motion Picture School, operating from 1992 to 2008. His first book, “The Video Bible”, has been used in schools’ media classes around BC.:

Through his production Company, Casson Films, Barry shot and directed more than 60 films and videos for government & industry receiving numerous national and international awards for his work in film. His most popular production “Lost in The Woods”, (a children’s outdoor survival film) was widely distributed throughout Canada and the US.

Barry has given numerous talks on film industry to colleges and universities and, business groups at most major cities in BC.  His latest book… “How To Become Who You Were Meant To Be” is aimed at encouraging today’s high school and college students to develop & seek out careers based on their built in gifts and talents. It will be available for $20.00 each and can be endorsed if you wish.
